

MARINARA SAUCE
While jar sauce is convenient, sometimes there is just no substitute for the real deal. This is a rich and flavour-popping tomato sauce that's easy to make and filled with the antioxidant lycopene.





WHAT YOU'LL NEED

4-6 large tomatoes or 2x300g cans whole peeled tomatoes

130g tomato paste

1 red onion
-
6 cloves garlic, minced

1 fresh chilli or 1 tsp chilli powder

2 tbsp paprika
-
1 tbsp Italian herbs
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 tsp rapadura sugar (optional - to reduce acidity)

LET'S GET COOKING

Chop the tomatoes and in a blender, pulse briefly until they are small bits.

Chop the onion; deseed and chop the chilli, if using.

Sauté the onions in a little water, until soft.

Stir in the remaining ingredients and add a little more water.

Simmer for approximately 45-60 minutes, until the tomatoes cook down and sauce thickens.
