SPORTS GEAR REVIVED
We believe in providing opportunities to those less fortunate, especially those that could one day make a significant contribution themselves. In collaboration with Sport Waikato and Sport Northland, we coordinate the collection of sports gear and deliver it to schools within the lower-socioeconomic and higher-deprivation communities of the Waikato and Northland regions of New Zealand. This includes sports clothing, tracksuits, swimwear, shoes and bags, and equipment such as bats, rackets and balls. Donating to the selected schools also positively impacts the surrounding communities.
This is an excellent opportunity to teach about a circular economy, giving unwanted items a new lease of life rather than sending them to landfills. The aim is to provide more kids with the opportunity to participate in sports, enabling them to immerse themselves in nature, enjoy the physiological benefits, and create better awareness about our environment.
“One pair of shoes, an item of clothing or even a cricket bat could change the path of a child, whether it be in sport or just life in general. In addition to associating themselves with other inspiring people, it builds better confidence which in turn develops these kids into good people, with, hopefully, the occasional new sporting star, too," - Eitelberg.
Initiated in 2012, there have been 16 schools and 2 community programmes as beneficiaries so far. Click below for the full list.
How to contribute
If you are a sports/outdoor retailer, sports club, school or sporting event company and you wish to donate sports apparel and/or equipment, please send us a message. Due to hygiene reasons and to eliminate any waste from our end, we have certain requirements as to what we do and do not accept so please refer to our Sports Gear Checklist.
This used to be an annual appeal however, this has now become an ongoing campaign and we thank our partner retailers and sporting event companies for enabling this hugely impactful initiative to continue on an ongoing basis. The more items donated to this appeal, the more communities we are able to reach.
