If you think you're not a fan of tofu or tempeh, chances are you haven't flavoured it all that well. This is a super quick, super delicious marinade you can use for baking or pan-frying.

  • 250g tempeh or 450g firm tofu

  • 2-3 tbsp tamari sauce

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp hot sauce

  • 2 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp garlic granules

  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Chili Bowl


  1. Cut the tempeh/tofu into thick slices or cubes, or cut diagonal lines into the tofu slab halfway down. Place into a medium glass container.

  2. Add all the marinade ingredients in and ensure all sides of the tempeh/tofu pieces are coated. Place a lid over the ingredients and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

  3. Preheat the oven to 170°C.

  4. Line a baking sheet and lay out the tempeh/tofu pieces. Pour the remaining marinade over the top. Bake for 20 minutes.

  5. Optional: If you don't feel like using the oven, the tofu/tempeh can easily be pan fried; Using a good quality non-stick pan, on medium heat, add tofu/tempeh pieces and half remaining marinade. Flip after 4-5 minutes, add remaining liquid and cook for another 4-5 minutes.
